No 114 of Living Life Series 1
We have some way to go on our road to be with God is clear as we continue to make mistakes, and do things wrong or not so right. Truth is as simple as ‘logic of way’ of life, the nature of life and why we are reborn. But to achieve simplicity (truth of logic of way), we face obstacles and our road is far from simple. With each obstacle or mishap in life and existence, we may be thrown aside. This can be painful, and demoralising. Worse still, we may go down the slippery slope of more rebirths due to more wrongs or the not-so right we have done.
That is the very reason why we need religions and sects to reach out to us. The saints extend their helping hand when we are sucked by the storms of life. It pays to have devotion and faith in Heaven while we weather the storms of life created by our not-right actions thoughts and speech.
We have magic word in ‘faith’ or trust in Heaven through saints. What makes us stay on course while in storms is the confidence we have. We may not see our way ahead even for the next few feet but faith helps us to carry on. Of course, we have to pilot and steer our own life but without faith in Above and guidance of saints sent by God, the will, optimism and confidence will be difficult to come by.
There must be bonding with a heavenly saint like Lord Bo Tien to give us that special confidence that He is with us. For example, Lord Bo Tien manifests Himself to us in our lives through both (a) event language in our life, and (b) when we sit in pious devotion to pray and meditate, we experience His presence in us, especially when we invite the Holy Spirit of Heaven through His lordship in “art of spiritual energy”. These divine experiences can be considered as gifts from Him, and we should treasure them. We should be thankful and ever grateful to Him.
Lord Bo Tien (and for that matter, any heavenly saint) wants us to see the simplicity of truth in complex institutions of organised religions. His temple is to be exemplary in not setting up new religion but in showing the model to explain “tou-li” (Chinese Hokkien phrase for logic or doctrine) in life. Another aspect of this model is the emphasis of faith or confidence in divine. Many practices of religions are focused on faith. For all of us who are motivated by Lord Bo Tien, we are guided to depict a fresh approach to Chinese popular traditional religious culture, which has become complicated over years. The Lord wants us to see that the simplicity of "tou-li" is there in Chinese temples and religious culture even with all the mud and layers gathered over time.
Failures are part of life and rebirth but with faith to be our pillar to cultivate and practise "tou-li", we will be on course despite the storms of failures we may face in ocean of life.
Faith always gives us at least a ray of divine hope or light, and for many, this is just not a ray but a beam of light.
Whilst we can look up to Heaven for help, we must realise that we need to live life ourselves. Heaven cannot live the life for us. Any mistakes or weaknesses we have are our own. We must cultivate more good than wrong. We need faith and help of saints.
Above all, we must learn to help one another as well, for this is another way we can receive help. We need not commit new types of mistakes and learn the hard way but we can see and learn from mistakes of others. If we do not want to feel the emotional hurt when others comment negatively on our mistakes, we should not do so to others. The Lord Bo Tien reminds us to have kind thought speech to others even when they are not on the right track or to put it crudely in the wrong. We must also respond with kind actions as well.
