No 140 of Living Life Series 1
There are four ways of going about life.
First way is to follow the mainstream and be like the Joneses. This is general way to be with society and to worldly success
Another way is to go against the stream, an uphill task. This is the way of those who are misfits with society – can be Einsteins or be criminals
Yet another way is to leave the stream. This is the way of the ascetics and hermit monks. Renunciation starts with staying away from society and the world.
A fourth way is to go with the stream most of the time, to contribute to the stream and be rooted in stream but to keep flowering above like the lotus. This is the way encouraged by Lord Bo Tien. Live the spiritual life but carry on in society.
The method or formula used for spiritual pursuit puts one on path of spiritual success and the same modus operandi if applied to social or family life makes us succeed and be in harmony with society.
Here the formula is to develop awareness of one's own thinking, the negative and the positive, to open up the divine self to tread the life towards purity and oneness with God.
Such a person is not affected by the yin and the yang, the positive and the negative, the ups and the downs, and the contingencies of life such as gain / loss, blame / praise, honour and dishonour.
Though rooted in water of life with yin yang currents, he remains with the stream and is rooted well but yet able to bud and flower above like the lotus.
Such is the lotus way of life that Lord Bo Tien wants us to lead
Lord Bo Tien exhorts us to lead the spiritual life without giving up the family life, without denying the worldly life and without cutting off links with society.
It is His teaching that the one who follows closely to His Way will, if he properly applies the same principles succeed both spiritually and in the mundane world.
