Do men need religion? The answer is "Yes"
Can men be religious without religion? Many would think that this is not possible.
But if we realize that religiosity is about the cultivation of the spirit and how one relates to God and saints in his or her own way, then indeed men and women can be religious without religion. Such men and women are comfortable with all religions and with those who believe in good simple honesty and humble life.
Not having a religion does not make one irreligious. It all depends on the person. A person can be far from religious even if he has a religion. He can be in a religion but not practicing it.
The sages of religions had to get away from the trappings of religion of the day to be what they became. Give this some thought.
Generally, it would be better for the majority to belong to a religion. Some of course would prefer to belong to more than one but perhaps not openly.
Ultimately what matters is that all must be able to see through the nature of life. All must realize the need for goodness - to do good, not to be bad, and to be pure. This is the inner or basic truth religions talk about. Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 wants us to be mindful of this inner truth. Indeed, there is oneness for goodness in all religions and even in those without religions.
Religions teach us to be good but we can have goodness with or without religion. Goodness is of God and saints. We do not need to worship God and saints to be good and to be Godly.
On the contrary, there are a few who are not good even if they worship God and saints. There are no problems with religion but with men. In fact religions are assets to society.
Goodness is of God and saints. Goodness is in all religions. The teaching or Word in all religions is on goodness. If the Word is God and saints, then the one who embodies goodness is the one who lives in the Word.
He may not be in any religion and may not worship God but he respects God by living in the Word, by living in goodness. He is beloved of God and saints. He is not Godless but Godly. He who lives in the Word, in goodness is near to God though far from God in religion.
Such a person has the essence of enlightenment referred to in Tibetan culture as Vajradhara. Vajradhara the primordial essence of enlightenment, predates historical Buddha and the saints. At Bo Tien Temple 武天宫, the equivalent is Mou Chi Sun - cross arm right hand deputy of Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨.
Incidentally, have you wondered why Mahatma Gandhi said that God has no religion? Men may have religions but God has no religion but is for all religions and for all beings with or without religions. Beings can be with God and saints even if they are without religion. All can be religious even without religion.
