No 1260 of Living Life Series 1
The good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 stresses that we stay with life and the world when we work at achieving peace of the spirit.
It is a great achievement to be able to renounce the world of ego and yet clique with the world of the egos of men. How many could accept this?
But the good lord says that this is the way. No need to run away from the world.
Wherever we go, we are still in the world of men. We cannot run from others and least of all ourselves.
We have to be what we are but be the better of what we are by being mindful why we cannot have more of peace. Peace is what we must have.
Peace we can have even if we lead as worldly a life as others. It is certainly more challenging to be able to have peace while leading a worldly life that often robs us of the peace in life.
Ego is the cause of wants and no peace. Who says without ego, we cannot have wants? Without ego, we can still have wants of sorts but not the turmoil and turbulence that follows the pursuit of wants.
We can have the egoless pursuit of wants. We will then not be wanting in peace.
Even the historical Buddha does not deny that men can be enlightened without being a monk or nun, without renouncing family and society.
We only need to renounce the ego drives but not the wants in life. This is more challenging than being a monk or nun. We can still make it to have peace of spirit.
We can have wants but not be wanting of peace - inner peace that is. This can be achieved in any religion and by anyone.
It is not about a change of life. It is not about not wanting this and that but about being peaceful and not suffering while living life of wants.
Have inner peace even in life of wants. Then we will not find life wanting. This is the way of the lotus which blooms in the watery world of muddy pond. The lotus looms above the pond and yet is within the pond.
The lotus pure and clean from mud lives in the world of mud. We too must be like the lotus live in world of wants and yet not find life wanting.
