No 949 of Living Life Series 1
Many choose to do what others do. They join the crowd and find this great and joyous. They like the fellowship and camaraderie. That is alright and not a bad idea.
But sometimes this will be like flowing downstream with the current and having more of the pollutants and what have you rather than the water.
If you want clear water, you need to go upstream against the current. Well, this requires effort and the person must part ways with the crowd. That is what sages of history like Jesus, Lao Tse, Ji Gong and Gautama did and they succeeded.
So the issue is whether we want to have fellowship and join the crowd or to be different by parting ways from the crowd.
For most, it is to be with the crowd for life with support from and with the many is fulfilling and an end in itself. It brings out the joy and fun in life - never mind if it is just flowing along downstream.
It is of course the easier way and more convenient as well than going upstream against the flow for clear water at the source. Often this will have to be the choice.
What is your choice? Of course, it is alright to go with the crowd till such times you are ready to pick yourselves up, stand up and move upstream to the source for clear water.
But then, you may not have fellowship of the many. The choice in life is in fellowship or self resilience.
Many would rather go for fellowship and strength in numbers but what if this means that the blind end up following the blind?
Often, it may still be good to join the crowd and be motivated in life. But there must still be that awareness and insight on life and truth.
It must be for some good reason that the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 reminded us that for clear water we need to go upstream against the current for clear water.
He too did tell us to have strength of numbers and to be of blessings to one another. But we must be like candle flames to light up one another's life and to light up the lives of others.
Of course there is the risk that when we join the crowd, are we moving into darkness or light. We need insight and mindfulness. We need to be candle lights of truth.
