No 921 of Living Life Series 1
If man is expected to be honest simple and good, and to work towards a pure life, then religion must set the example. Religion indeed has done so but along the way as time passes by, man in honoring religion adds to the basics and fundamentals to make it more awesome. But religion becomes complex and no longer simple. A temple must only be set up to bring out the simplicity and the basics of religion.
But man will always be more man. Man will make things no longer simple. Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 commented that the issues of men are many and plentiful. Chapters and chapters of history are added and the lessons of history of men related to religion beef up the texts. The experiences and the Word of men of religion are added not just the Word of God and the founder saint. This would dilute the basic Word. This would complicate matters and create issues.
Religion is meant to be simple and primarily between the man and God or saint but along the way it has come to include the complex and multifaceted history of relationships between man and other men. This seems unavoidable and not a bad thing if this does not impose a barrier between man and God or saint.
Man gets clouded, diverted and carried away. Man ends up flowing along downstream with other men. That is the easy way and convenient. But to get clear water of spirituality man must go upstream even if others go downstream. This did the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 advise.
Waste not time going along downstream. Know what is needed and go it alone even if this means going upstream against the down stream current. Do not follow the crowd and turn a blind eye to what is necessary.

Do not go for more of the trappings of men and be enslaved and tied down. After some time, we don't need more of the trappings of men. We need more time and peace to attend to the matters of the spirit. We need to be more spiritual and not more man.
But for that we still need to be man but not more man. Religion must not make man no longer man. Religion must not make man more like other men but more like God and saints.
Well, to sum up, man needs to be less man and at least a wee bit more like God and saint. Man needs to be less attached and clinging but be more free and liberated to have the free spirit of saints.
Man must find the temple to be a sanctuary to be less man and more saint. But what if men of society flock to the temple and make it a temple of men than a temple of God and saint? Well then, many may end up more man instead.
The man we must be has to be less man and wee bit of a saint or even more. Thus Ji Gong 济公 had to leave the temple to be more of a saint. Indeed he is a saint and all know him as saint - a living Buddha.
Don't go to a house of God and end up more man. That defeats the purpose of going there. What are you there for?
Be in the open world like Ji Gong 济公. Be in the open temple with the sky as the roof rather than in the temples of men. The world is the true temple. Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 did say.
God and saints feel for all. No distinction is made with regards to religions of men. God and saints have no religions. Men have religions. Mahatma Gandhi stood out in stressing that God has no religion. Men have religions.
All are one in God and saints. Religions should not divide men. But religions do serve to reach out to more men. Without religions by men for men, the outreach will not be as wide. If men are less men and not more man but be more saint-like, men will easily be one in God and saints.
Religions will only be vehicles to reach out to more of men the world over. There after, the individual relationship between a man and God and saints should take over - not the relationship between a man and other men. This is the way for spiritual growth.
