No 955 of Living Life Series 1
Do you know that Earth is the paradise for learning for those who came from paradise up there? Would you believe that there is vast opportunities for learning here than in the paradise that men look forward to in the afterlife?
Yet, when we are down here we treasure not the chance to be man. Rare is birth as man. The Buddha said so, didn't he?
He even had to come down as man before he could attain the highest stage of enlightenment and his death as man was the ultimate in his enlightenment when he discarded his physical form to be returned as dust. That which came from dust must return to dust.
If we do not be attentive to the lessons of life as man and waste and while away our life, we are daydreaming in class of life. We end up not learning and back tracking. What then are the consequences?
We create problems for ourselves and end up in living hell of sorts either of hell of sheer sensual indulgence or hell of sheer running away from the trials and tribulations of life. Running away from life is like trying to run away from school - playing truant.
But unlike the real school, the school of life is everywhere and we cannot run away from school of life. Religions all teach us to be good and to learn from life. Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 says that life is the living gospel.
Yes, it is the school for us to learn to be good, avoid evil and purify the spirit. Life is the school for us to know better the teachings of all saints in all religions and best of all to put the teachings into practice - to effect them out in the school of life.
What more can we ask for when life affords us the chance to learn from life? We learn to be at peace to have more hope at being better at having peace. The ultimate peace makes saints out of all of us. Let us return to our mission or goal at being back to the school of life.
