No 1085 of Living Life Series 1
There are indeed good men in any religious community of whatever religion. They can even be great and move people to not only good works but great works. We must rejoice that there are such people and their greatness. They become the idols of the religious community.
But the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 cautions that there are the two sides of any man and we must learn from their strengths and weaknesses. In another sermon, He refers to this as yin and yang, the negative and positive in every person or entity.
We must learn to know and appreciate goodness and great works. But we must not be carried away by the man who is good and great. We must not idolize him and see him as God or saint.
The good lord stresses that man is man and God is God. See not the God in man and the man in God.
We must not hero-worship him. Doing so may make us see the saint only in that man and not the little devil or weakness in him, for he is still man and no saint.
We will end up making a monster out of him. He may end up more self-centered and throw caution to the wind. He may end up misleading others and breaking not only the laws of God but the laws of the land.
At the other extreme, there are those who see only the weakness in a leader who had done and make good for the religious community. They fault him for this and make a devil out of him though he was good and still can be of more good in the long run.
The ego driven judgmental nature of the many may end up having the better of them and they make a devil out of him - someone who had contributed significantly to great works and someone whom they should be thankful and appreciative of
They lose their heads. They become consumed by their egoistic worldly nature - their thinking that they now know better. They want to expose the devil of that man. The man or leader in question is no longer an asset to them and they think they are now better than him.
They throw away their spirituality to the wind. Yes, they do not idolize him though he has done great works before. But is there the need to see him as the devil of sorts just because they don't like him for his weakness? What about the many good he had done? What about respect for him fpr being an elder?
Wouldn't it be better to accommodate him and make him make good for his so-called weakness. That would be more loving and compassionate. That would be more appreciative for the good he had done. That would bring out more the goodness in them and facilitate more good out of him.
Let us guard our spirituality more so if we are men of religion. Let us be sane even if we are not that spiritual.
Do not throw spirituality to the wind. Do not turn a house of God upside down. Let there be sanity even if lacking in spirituality.
Let us humble ourselves that we may be exalted. Let us not be exalted and end up humbled. Lord Jesus said that, didn't he? Those who think they know better in a house of God better wake up before they turn the house of God upside down.
