The Living Life Series is dedicated to Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨). The doctrine is in His image. The image is the doctrine. He who sees, understands and effects the doctrine sees and knows Him. He who does not see, know and effect the doctrine sees not and knows not the saint even if the saint or His image is beside him. The far may be near and the near may be far. Let the doctrine and the saint be part of our life. The lord saint in your life can be any heavenly saint of any religion, sect or school. The doctrine of truth is behind all and this is the Inner Truth that leads all (regardless of their religious affiliation or even if none) to inner peace and heaven on earth here and now and not just in the after life. The ideal worship and devotion is to know and effect the doctrine of God and the saints. The best gospel is the gospel of life. We learn from our life and the lives of others. The true temple is the world we live in. The sky is the roof of the temple and religions and sects are the pillars of the temple. All under Heaven are in the temple. Needless to say that all the saints we know are in this temple. Ji Gong Posat too is no exception. The whole wide world and web is the temple and must be regarded as a sacred place --- a temple for living and learning. It is more important that everyone that counts plays a role in this universal temple if due focus is to be given to the Mission of Heaven. Men must not be distracted by the agenda of men and end up serving the mission of man. That would be a far cry from the Mission of Heaven. We worship God and saints, not man however good that man may be. There should be no hero worshiping or idolizing of man whether he is a charismatic pastor, priest, monk, medium or lay leader. We don't even idol worship the image of any saint but reflect on what the image stands for. - the doctrine in the image. Omitofo 阿弥陀佛!.

Go big on small things and small on big things

No 1112 of Living Life Series 1

Go for simple devotion. Do simple acts of goodness. Smile and give cheer. Be kind to others and yourself. Don't worry if you are not pious or religious enough. Be ordinary and humble. Be simple and easy going. Don't take life for granted. Value the small things in daily life many seem to take for granted and feel that more blessed.

Such persons may be far from serious spiritual cultivation but end up near to spirituality even if they just go for devotion and simple acts of goodness. They may know little of the doctrine but the little they know such as to be good, avoid bad and be pure and simple in life goes a long way.

They may be small on the big things but are big for the small things. They go easy with themselves and not rush into the big things of spirituality.

They find life more rewarding both spirituality and otherwise. The values they hold on to for spiritual if practiced in mundane life works as well.

Go for the small things and the big things will take care of themselves. Go easy with life. They go for what many take for granted. They are happy with the little blessings of life.

Well, the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 realize the problems of men of religions. He says that those who want to go big with religion may think they are near to God and saints. But many end up floored and confused as to how to proceed. They may be near yet far.

The good lord says that the far from religious, those who don't even want to commit to religious cultivation may well end up more spiritual and more blessed. They end up near though far.

He said, "The far may be near and the near far." Those who know allot and talked allot more passionately in a temple may not be as good as those who know little in doing the basic good, avoiding bad and be pure and simple in life.

This basic teaching is in all religions and all cultures. This is common to and underlies all religions. This is the message of the good lord. All religions are one in basic teaching. This is the inner truth.

We must go for the little things in life and the big things will come in time and fall in place. When we want to start off big, we may end up small.

It is better to start off big on small things and small on big things. Then things though small will add up and we will end up big.

The good lord stresses that whatever spiritual values we have if applied to mundane or non-spiritual life will work as well. Then we will have double blessings of sorts - spiritual as well as worldly.

Don't say we don't need worldly life. Don't deny life but don't indulge in excess and be overwhelmed. Don't go for big things, just the small things will do - such as friendship, cup of tea and easy going life.  Be simple and move on.

Just appreciate life as it comes our way and count your blessings - even the air you breathe and every step you take with ease. Be mindful of and eschew the little blessings in life. Enjoy the smell of wet grass, the rising and setting sun, the sea view, the trees that grow with us, the chirping of birds, the sound of children at play and the daffodils in bloom.

The small things in life do add up. Worldly life may be small to the idealist religious man and not important at all to him but the experiences of worldly life do add up and contribute to the learning in life. Life after all is the living gospel - the Doctrine or Word.

So far, we have talked on individuals and not on group dynamics of a religion - any religion. As for a religion, if it goes for the big teachings that are philosophical and difficult to understand let alone practiced, not many will take to this. It becomes too academic, there will be splitting of hairs. Then religion will not attract the crowd.

If a religion goes for the small things, like singing and joy of worship, fellowship and partying mood, then it will attract the crowd and make headway. People go for nectar like insects to the flower. The good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 says that we blame not the flower for insects coming to it for nectar

If the teaching emphasis is lowered for just getting blessings here and now and going to heaven in after life rather than being enlightened and be saints, then more will take to the religion.

Change the goal never mind if heaven in afterlife is just a respite or resting place for more to go - enlightenment. Emphasize that it is easy to go heaven and that is it. Go for what is more likely to catch on as the in-thing.

But for some, having taken care of the small things in religion, these will add up and they will go nearer to the big thing - enlightenment or sainthood which Buddha refers to as Nirvana.

Thus, be it for a religion or an individual, go big on the small things and small on the big things. Don't go by the book and end up wondering why no results or returns - no crowd and no immediate satisfaction. Give this some thought, will you?

Well if you are Buddhists or Taoists, many will agree that for now and the foreseeable rest of life, they just need to be simple and devoted. Burn and offer incense and lotus lights. Do so for God and saints like the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 and be blessed. It is as simple as that.

This will be enough for now for the many. Go big for small things like incense and small on big things like philosophy and practices leading to enlightenment.
