No 1105 of Living Life Series 1
Open your mouth only if what you are going to say is more beautiful than silence. Silence they say is golden. That is why there is the practice of keeping silence in a temple before noon or before sunset. That is why there is such a thing as spiritual retreat to be one with God and saints
We often talk too much. We talk more than necessary. We don't think and give much thought to what we say. We are not mindful and it may be a good habit if we learn to talk less. Less can be more effective.
The Buddha said that what he has taught was like the leaves in his hand and what he had not taught is like the leaves in the forest. But what he taught is more than enough for men at various levels of spirituality from the basic devotional type, the do good type to the wisdom seekers. He kept his silence on the rest.
But ironically, there arose many more teachings in his name or in the names of other Buddhas. There is also too much noises on spirituality not only in just one religion but in other religions. There arose as a result of noises sects, denominations and schools within sect.
Mind you, do not be mistaken. These are necessary to attract more who would otherwise be deaf and blind to spirituality due to the many worldly distractions vying for their attention. We need more noises and more religions to capture the attention of men.
That is why the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 says that there must be many religions and not just one or two. This is what God and saints want for us.
But having been attracted by the attractive noises in religions, many would have to decide what next and how to be more in tune with God and spirituality rather than be with the noises of men.
God and saints keep the peace and are by and large silent but they are loud in their divine silence. Men are generally different. Men make noises out of passion and out of goodwill but each and everyone may be coming from slightly different angle.
They often do not know how to keep the silence when silence is due. They add to the proliferation of noises which are indeed good but yet not so. They want to say more but what more can they say that will truly help others.
Keep the silence. If need to speak, say your piece and no more. It may be more effective this way.
But as said before, there need to be those who say more than what they need to say. There need to be noises to attract attention and the crowd. We need noisy people but we need to know how to capitalize on their noises for the good of men.
The good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 descended in 1969 and gave his few messages over less than a decade. Then he kept his silence.
Is he reckless and irresponsible? Certainly, this cannot be. What he has said and need to say, he had said. What more is there left for him to say. We must be like him. We must ask ourselves thus. Is there the need to say more? What more to say?
As with the need for silence and for noise, this applies too to Christmas. Without the noises and the merry making, Christmas would be a non event.
But yet the true essence of Christmas lies in this few words of a Christmas carol. "Silent night, holy night, all is calm and all is bright..." Silence welcome the birth of Christ. Silence is divine. Need more be said. What more to say...
With the silence, comes the gift of life in Christ through good old Santa coming in the silence of the night.
