The Living Life Series is dedicated to Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨). The doctrine is in His image. The image is the doctrine. He who sees, understands and effects the doctrine sees and knows Him. He who does not see, know and effect the doctrine sees not and knows not the saint even if the saint or His image is beside him. The far may be near and the near may be far. Let the doctrine and the saint be part of our life. The lord saint in your life can be any heavenly saint of any religion, sect or school. The doctrine of truth is behind all and this is the Inner Truth that leads all (regardless of their religious affiliation or even if none) to inner peace and heaven on earth here and now and not just in the after life. The ideal worship and devotion is to know and effect the doctrine of God and the saints. The best gospel is the gospel of life. We learn from our life and the lives of others. The true temple is the world we live in. The sky is the roof of the temple and religions and sects are the pillars of the temple. All under Heaven are in the temple. Needless to say that all the saints we know are in this temple. Ji Gong Posat too is no exception. The whole wide world and web is the temple and must be regarded as a sacred place --- a temple for living and learning. It is more important that everyone that counts plays a role in this universal temple if due focus is to be given to the Mission of Heaven. Men must not be distracted by the agenda of men and end up serving the mission of man. That would be a far cry from the Mission of Heaven. We worship God and saints, not man however good that man may be. There should be no hero worshiping or idolizing of man whether he is a charismatic pastor, priest, monk, medium or lay leader. We don't even idol worship the image of any saint but reflect on what the image stands for. - the doctrine in the image. Omitofo 阿弥陀佛!.

Go for the signs and not science of spirituality

No 654 of Living Life Series 1

Go more for the Word than the religion or the men. What matters are the teachings or values, not the culture and practices of men, not the thinking of men written or unwritten. Do not pass off the written words of men as that of God and heavenly saints.

Many go for the concepts of creation stated in religions. But these concepts may be consistent, current and believable centuries ago but may not be so in the present.

Centuries ago the concepts added awe to the spirituality. They provided the background for anchoring the devotion to God and heavenly saints.

The concept that God creates is one such concept but men out of faith thinks God is behind all. But this may not be so. If this is not so, then does it mean we are doubters of God and saints. On the contrary, we are not.

Today, our belief and faith are not rooted in the ancient outdated concept of science that were current centuries ago. Often religious literature are built on the ancient concepts of science many centuries ago. While science has advanced, that referred to in religion do not and become obsolete.

Centuries ago, men think the world is flat and religions go along with this. But out of faith in the written scriptures as of God and saints, men left such beliefs in the written scripts as untouchable and not to be discarded. This sadly is the type of science behind religion.

For the faithful, even if it is outdated and contradicted present knowledge of science, it matters not. For those who view differently, they think that religion is inconsistent with reality and just throw in the towel. They too readily pronounce that religion is not right.

But are God and heavenly saints focused on the science in religion? Surely not. Even if the science knowledge is updated to the current, what we know as current will in centuries time be outdated and wrong. It is not the intention of God and saints to make religion scientific.

Then, divinity will have to tell us what we believe through current knowledge of science now are all wrong or not good enough. But even if the ultimate are revealed, men with current know-how of science will not understand and will run down and rubbish the revealed science knowledge.

So, we must not go for the facts and science of life and the universe when we go for the spiritual life. Rather we must ask ourselves, if we can experience the spirituality and blessings of being in a religious set-up.

If we are happy with the camaraderie, if our life is smooth going, and if we can have contentment with the finite blessings, then we have arrived. These are the signs of spirituality for the many.

Go for the signs and not the science of spirituality. This is true and applicable for the many. They want fellowship, social support, feeling wanted by fellow men, being at peace and calm with them and feeling secure by having worldly blessings that come their way when they are with the religious crowd of their choice.

But in time, some will grow more in spirituality and outstrip the many in the crowd. There need to have more spiritual growth which are beyond all these. They need to develop and live more deeply and widely in the Word or Way of God and saints. They need to be more like the sages and the saints.

Go for the signs and not science behind spirituality. The science at any point in history will end up somehow wrong and outdated in time. More importantly, go more for the Word than the religion or the men in religion. It is the values that count, not the stories or even the accepted facts.

Stories and even at times facts cannot stand up to scrutiny but values can. He who sees the values sees and knows the Word and as extension, God and heavenly saints.

That is why the good lord Lord Bo Tien says that we should know the Word and we will know him as well. The Word is him and he is the Word. This is just like what some will say that the Word is God and God is the Word.

Go for the comforting signs of spirituality such as feeling of peace and divine warmness. Do not go for the stories, the alleged facts or the often ancient science referred to in history of religions. Go for Tao - The Word or Way. This is the inner truth to be found in all religions.

Religions are doors for us to open to reach the Inner Truth. Doors may not look alike but inner truth is one and same in that God is one and ultimate divine peace in God and saints is of one taste - the taste of deliverance.

Go for what he stands for.
It is the Word or Tao
and not who he is
or whether he exists.
That would be the story,
fact or science,
not the Word -
the spiritual values of life.
Values can stand the test of times
not science or facts
Our understanding of
science, forms and facts
cannot stand the test of time.

Do have some thought on science and religion. There are many viewpoints. Let us see what Albert Einstein said. He said that religion without science is blind and science without religion is lame.

There must be some middle ground. As in science, go for the signs - the hard evidence. Go for the signs of spirituality but do not expect science in spirituality to keep up with the times.

Lest you forget

Do not make the mistake of idolizing any man who tells you about the Word. He is in the same boat as you even if religion refers to him as a religious leader. Mere mention of a religious leader is as good as encouraging idolising of that man. Why must there be hierarchy in religion? Hierarchy is conventional but may end up as liability rather than a necessity or asset. There should be no caste or hierarchy system in religion. No one is to be considered above another in religion. A religious leader or follower is a servant to serve you and not a leader to be idolised. Do not put him on the pedestal and make a monster out of him.

MAY ALL BE WELL AND HAPPY

May all be well and happy. May they have peace. May our departed friends and kins be well, happy and have divine peace. The main writer wishes the best for all for those near and far. Our kins may be far when they had passed on to better lives but they are near though far. He remembers and wishes his parents Mr Siow Soo Koh and Mdm Tay Hung Siang, his uncles and aunties like Mr Tay Koon Huay, his cousins like Mr Tay Chong Sim and his friends like Mr Philip Png well and have abundance of life. May they be rich in spirit for without such ancestors, there will be no posterity - no us and no you and me. They have blessed us and we must blessed them in return forever and ever.
