No 1539 of Living Life Series 1
Incense sticks, burning of sandalwood, the chiming of big bells, gongs and the beating of drums were the craze with many people for the generations that followed after the founders but for the generations that would follow them, these would be switch offs and they would prefer music, guitar and bands on stage with night club like disco lights.
Without such new gadgets and devotional support of the prevailing times, religion would not attract and capture the imagination of the waves of subsequent generations to come.
Without these, religion would than be the relic of the past and churches and temples would be desolate with a handful of oldies dwindling by the day.
In past, free meals before and after services were attractions. But not so with passage of time. People would rather hang out with others at cafes and nice eateries with entertainment.
They need up to date and latest entertainment in a church or temple. But there would be limits to these in a church or temple.
So what next can we expect in popular religion. Religion would then not be popular enough to bring in the crowd. Religion would increasingly lose its popularity and temples and churches would in time be empty. How can religion stay relevant?
One view is that there is no need to answer this question. This is not even a concern for those who go for the truth common to and behind religions. Though religions are different they are still the same in the belief on goodness and the purity of the spirit - the need to be at peace at heart and not expect peace around them before they can have inner peace. This is the reminder by Bo Tien 武天.
