Celebrate life everyday through inner peace and not wait for religious and temple celebrations
Bo Tien 武天 stresses that it is not for the majority to lead a celibate life and leave the family and society to commit wholly to spiritual. Many need to be in society, in family and to take up jobs. But this can be the perfect social setting for spiritual practice.
If we can do so without leaving life, job and family, it is more challenging to be spiritual though not easy. There is need for mindfulness on how to balance the two.
We need to be part of family, workplace and society where the agenda is for worldly matters. It is just because this is the case, that life in family, workplace and society presents to us more than ample situations to steer clear of egocentric drives for self, for the family and for the institutions or companies we work in.
We have to serve the worldly needs of others and at same time serve our own worldly needs. Such environment is good for us to find how we can be less affected by worldly and ego needs so that we can better be able to be less worldly or ego orientated.
To be less worldly and ego orientated is to be spiritual and have less clinging or attachments. The spiritual values which enable us to have inner peace in us despite the lack of peace around us and in the world we live in allows us to be better adjusted to worldly life.
This is in keeping with the reality that life is the greatest teacher and the holiest of the holy texts.
We must celebrate life and one way is to have more celebrations in temples and religions so that many whose lives are battle scarred repeatedly by worldly life because of conflicts of egos will be drawn to religions and temples.
They may bring to religions and temples their problems in the world and ask for worldly blessings from God and saints. God and saints will try to meet some of these worldly needs but in the long run God and saints hope that many who flock to religion or temple like ants and insects to a flower will one day realise that there is more than the worldly needs they need.
There is need to have inner peace and this will enable men to plug into the pull and push of society and of life. There is no way to run away from life and even monks and priests know that. Let us all celebrate life by not being celibate or escapists of life.
Do not let ego have the better of us even in religion. That will be promoting the self ego in of all places religion. Do not excessively neglect family and society we are in by going for reapeated mission trips for months and years leaving in the lurch the family, the workplace and society we are in.
To be able to live up to more inner peace in life where there is no peace is reason to celebrate. Let us be victors in life by making it possible to have inner peace in world where there is strife and no peace - in world where we must scratch the backs of others before they will scratch our backs.
There is cause for celebration and sense of victory if we can be at peace at heart amid the no-peace in life we are in or in the physical body of ours. Inner peace will make us victors of worldly life. Be victors and celebrate life everyday through inner peace. We will have heavenly experience in life and not wait for afterlife.
Celebrate life everyday through inner peace and not wait for religious and temple celebrations.
