No 1225 of Living Life Series 1
We are so used to problems that when there are none we feel empty and ironically yearn for problems. We end up creating problems.
We even think we should suffer and there is merit in suffering. But how did suffering arise in the first place. It is the mind that creates it. It is us.
So if we do not create suffering, where will there be suffering? It boils down to our expectations and wants.
The good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 observes that the problems of men are many and plentiful. Men find solace and respite in religion. But even in religion, men find fault and create problems for themselves and with others even of the same religion, what more if the others are of other religions.
We need to start off with the understanding of why we have problems. It has to do with the cluttered and restless mind. Clear the mind of clutter and be mindful not to be upset,
When upset arises, be aware that there is upset. Then observe your mind from a distance and tell yourself you don't need to be upset. If still this does not work, don't feel guilty as this will only add to problems and an unsettled mind.
Find the cause. Even before you realise the cause, often the only way is to still your mind. It is to keep cool and not be affected. Then perhaps you will know where the cause lies.
Usually it is in the way you react, the way you handle situation, the way you speak and act. It is also whether you make effort to show the care in being gentle and caring even with those unkind to you. Some say it is about not rubbing the abrasive ego of others with your own ego.
It is about having inner peace come what may. Often at times it is about mindful reflection. It is about creating habit of mindful trilogue as though you are three in one - the self mindful of the unpleasantness, the critical and self abusing self and the neutral self that analyses and create overall awareness.
Logic will often prevail with such moment to moment cultivation of inner peace. This logic is Tao 道 - common sense to the wise and ridiculous to many who love problems and yet suffer from them.
The trilogue for mindfulness will lead to inner peace and release the greater awareness some refer to as the third eye or sixth sense. This is the way to be one with God and saints but it takes time. Be patient, persist and be resilient.
The habit of trilogue within mind for inner peace is Tao 道. It is in all religions. It is even common sense - logical thinking.
Definitely common sense must prevail be it in any religion or otherwise. But common sense is often put aside when we are bewitched by ego and its emotions - when we are emotional and not calm and collected.
