No 716 of Living Life Series 1.
Never say others are wrong or that they know less but always appreciate what they know and how that has made their life tick.
This is more so in matters of religion. Remember that religion is for the masses and sainthood is not. The teachings of religion are already awesome enough and are more than necessary for the masses.
Where sainthood is the goal, man must rise above the conventions of religion and liberate himself from the fetters - the dogmas of religion. He must go beyond the confines of religion and set himself free to roam the wide open world.
That is what Ji Gong (济公) as man did, otherwise he would be no saint - no living Buddha. He was heckled by the prohibitive and restricted rules of religion. "You must do this and not do that." seems to be told to him by others in the monastery he was in.
The goal then seems to be to please men so that they will not point fingers at you. Ji Gong knew what he should do. He was himself and acted from the heart. What matters was that he put his heart into life. "What matters is what goes through the heart and not what one does or what goes through the gut." This is his doctrine - no more and nothing less
Man must set himself free and have no fear and guilt. Man must not be heckled by the gossips of other men. How then can a man be saint if he is in a religion of man and tied down by regulations and dogmas policed and implemented by men? Those who are on way to sainthood must be beyond the confines of religion.
Do give this some thought. Choose what you want. Do you know only enough to go to heaven or do you know more to be a saint and go beyond heaven.
If your lot is to be a saint, then be a free thinker but a spiritual one at that, not a worldly one but a world-wise one - someone wise to the worldly problems and heckles of men.
If your lot is not to be saint but just to just to go along with rules and expectations of men of religion, then religion is for you and you will be more than content with promise of heavenly sojourn in after life.
If you lot is to be a saint, for goodness sake go beyond religion and be at peace with the whole wide world and not be confined to religion of men. Be cautioned though that you may be lonely and secluded from men of religion but then how else can you be free and be on way to sainthood?
Leave others alone and argue not with them till kingdom come. Do bless them when you can but hopefully not the other way round.

A man seeking sainthood is already in heaven while still a man so long as he is on the path of sainthood. When if ever he arrives at sainthood is immaterial. What matters is that he liberates himself in the here and now and tastes the sweet fruit of deliverance.
