If we are not confident of our religious beliefs and culture, we may keep our psychological distance from others with different beliefs. We have fear of losing conviction for our own beliefs and shaken by others' differing beliefs.
This fear can translate to ill-will and dislike for other religions or sects. It can also lead to us despising our own culture and beliefs. We feel threatened and this can bring on the bad streak in us. We feel as though others' differing beliefs are threats, or we may even feel ashamed by our own beliefs. There is lack of confidence
The solution is to know more - not only of our own beliefs but also of others. Knowledge and grasp enable confidence. We must cultivate confidence.
We should know why there are differences in approach but yet ultimately the core behind all beliefs has to do with core goodness or basic purity that we often attribute to God and heavenly saints. This is in all religions.
All religions have to be different in approach so as to enable God and saints to reach out to the many like the ocean to many a shore. Let there be not one way or approach but many to meet the differing needs of the many. This is the message of the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨.
Truth gives confidence. Conviction in truth is the solution. That way we can embrace our own beliefs and culture and at same time be close to and embrace the differences of others' culture and beliefs.
We will not keep our distance from others. We will also not reject differences. We will embrace differences. Good grounding of logical approach to religion gives confidence in our own religion. Such confidence allows us to embrace differences in other religions.
