No 1062 of Living Life Series 1
13th day of 9th lunar month
The issues of men are many and plentiful. This the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨 said.
But because men are problematic, they will even deny that the good lord said so. The good lord added that the day may come when there will be those who think he is the concoction or imagination of man.
Men cannot separate God and saints from men and men from God and saints. Men are men and God and saints are God and saints. This was stressed by the good lord Lord Bo Tien 武天菩萨.
Thus the moment the teachings of a religion is expounded, it will be diluted as life goes on. The good lord says that if we want the pure and early teachings we must go upstream to the upper source for clear water.
Good works are always good but how good they are depends on what is behind the good works. Is there the ego agenda? Is the good work secondary to primary gain of the doer.
Like what the good lord says, that some do good for personal motive but all the same, no matter what, they will still be rewarded and blessed for the good work.
But ideally, there should be the purity of intention behind good work. There must be pureness of spirit.
But alas even in any temple, the good lord says men come like insects to the flower for nectar. Well, the good lord says that we don't blame the flower for this.
Good works, for example, help the destitute to have three square meals a day and a decent shelter in an aged home, so that they can live life as humans in some decency.
But the problems of man are many and beyond decent shelter and three meals. Men are not contented. Men cannot be at peace.
All men, be they destitute or well-off must have peace by balancing the pulls and push of life - the yin and yang. Only then can they reach ultimate inner peace and save their souls so as to be able to save others' souls. That is why good works though good are not good enough.
Religion too is the good work of men. But religion itself is not good enough if it ends up as the vehicle for the personal gains of men - the worldly appetites of men for ego needs.
But please don't blame religion or God and saints for that. Blame not the flower for insects coming to it.
Blame not any heavenly saint if the men who do work in his name disappoint you. Men will ever be men. See the men from God and saints and the God and saints from men. Know who is man and who is God or saint.
