No 849 of Living Life Series 1
Go to a temple not for the concrete greatness. Go not for the grandeur of festivals and the addiction to greatness of good works. Go instead for what the temple stands for.
What is the grand design in life for beings? What is the purpose in life? To understand this, there must be need to know why there must be death and why we must be at peace with the downs for every up will precede a down. Life precedes death and death precedes life. In life, there is death and in death, there is life.

To understand this, there must be need to know why there must be death and why we must be at peace with the downs for every up will precede a down. Life precedes death and death precedes life. In life, there is death and in death, there is life.
But in any great temple, people seem to go about life as though death is for others and not for them. They run the temple as though it is no different from the secular world. They cling on to a temple in the very same way they cling on to their worldly possessions.
They not only hold on to the organ of administration but think that they can subsume the organ of spirituality under the organ of administration. Worse still, if they want more and want the world to be at their beck and call and to be devoted to them rather than to God and saints but still in the name of God and saints, they do the unthinkable.
They take on the organ of spirituality and have hold also on the organ of management. They think that God is with them and that what they want they will get. They think they can break laws.
But then they plain forget that they must give to God and saints what is of God and saints and to men what is of men. There are the laws of Heaven. There are also the laws of the land.

It is best that those in a temple who handle and are beholden to the laws of the land must be different from those who handle and are beholden to the laws of God and saints. This is plain common sense.
In a temple of the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨), the good lord has divined that there be separate organs to handle the laws of God and the land - namely the spiritual body and the administrative body. Elder Ling the founding administrator had championed this divine instruction.
There may be occasion when a temple will fail to do so and either the laws of God or the laws of the land are infringed. If this happens, then the consequences of such a folly will be grim reminder for other temples not to make the same mistake.
All is not in vain if the worse should happen. They will learn and others too will learn as well from their experience. That will in a way be wholesome...
It is worthwhile for the two bodies, the spiritual body and the administrative bodies to check each other. They must comply with each other's jurisdiction. Then there will be peace on Earth and in Heaven for that temple.
This peace comes from balance of yin and yang. The doctrine of yin and yang is the age-old philosophy of life in China that the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) also brought up in his latter anniversary messages. It is inherent in culture and this enables compliance with both heavenly and earthly laws.
Incidentally, the only way to be at peace with life is to be at peace with death. Likewise, the only way to be at peace with the laws of Heaven is to be at peace with the laws of the land. Life and death like Earth and Heaven are intertwined in cyclical manner. If we cannot keep the peace with the laws of the land, how to be at peace with the laws of Heaven.
