No 847 of Living Life Series 1
What matters in life is often that those of the same interests must gather together like a bunch of candles to better shine out life for everyone not only of their group but also for those outside their group. This is stressed by the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨).
If there are many groups and each group too takes care of the welfare of other groups and not only their own, so much the better.
This principle applies to the secular world as much as to the spiritual world. The good lord says that what works for spiritual will work as well for the secular world.
Thus the presence of many groups should be asset to society and not a liability so long as all take care of those beyond their own group. This is what loving kindness or divine love is all about.
It is present in all religions. Loving kindness works as well in spiritual as in secular life.
Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) |
It is present in all religions. Loving kindness works as well in spiritual as in secular life.
This is a good ideal to go for, though in practice at times, people can be carried away by their thinking that they are better than others. This may rub off on others in unkind ways. If so, then they should resolve to be mindful and to help other groups to be better at being good not only for themselves but for others.
Loving kindness must go beyond the circle, group, family, religion or sect we are in. Love means taking care of and accepting others for what they are.
There must be give and take. People must agree to disagree. Often even the members of a family love fellow members but still agree to disagree. They never agree in all matters, and yet they are family - a loving and close knitted one at that.
There is the bond. Even if there be squabbles at times, they are just storms in a tea cup. They are easily forgotten because of the bond of love. They will mend and still have love within the group but let there be more love to spare for others beyond.
Every religion or family upholds love and compassion. If we are ardent upholders of the religions or families we are in, then rightly, we should have love and compassion for all beings, beyond the brethren in our respective religions or families.
We must have the same yardstick of love for those with no religion or in other religions or families - even for those who are not human beings - visible or invisible, in hell, on earth or in heaven. Then we are true to our religious calling. We should endeavor to cultivate this calling, more and more over time - never mind if we cannot do as much as we want to for now.
