No 830 of Living Life Series 1
Whatever religion we are in and even if we do not have one, what matters is whether we are at peace with people and with life full of ups and downs and twists and turns. We must be like the lotus at peace with and nourishing from the mud and water of the pond.
To be not at peace and to be muddied is the nature of life due to the ups and downs which sages refer to as the yin and yang - the worldly contingencies like praise blame, gain loss.
Life flows on downstream and picks up more additional along the way. It may seem nice and progress but the more we gain along the way, the more there is the hassle and buzz with the attendant lack of peace. As we grow older, we lose our child-like innocence and simplicity. The problem is that children in modern times are often denied the simplicity and child-like innocence very much earlier on in life.
There is need to stand still but near impossible to do so. It is far better still to move against the downstream flow and move upwards if we want clear water, less of the unrest and be able to have more of the peace.
It requires much effort just to try to stand still and not be swept downstream mercilessly by the current of life that gathers more and more strength and complexity the more we are swept downstream.
We need to make the effort to want to be at peace come what may. We need to move up against the current and go upstream to as close as possible to the upper source where there is clear water and where there is stillness and peace.
The quest of life is the quest for peace. All the worldly trappings we go for are the means to this end but if we do not have the correct mind set, we end up not having peace. We cannot deny the need to have them for now as sort of means to an end but let not the means become the end.
If we want peace, let not life take control of us but let us take control of life. We must have life but then, for life to be meaningful it must go beyond just the worldly trappings and we must be in control and have peace in life often punctuated by storms to disrupt whatever peace we may have.
Isn't this life? Isn't our unconscious goal in life is to have the peace? The good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) teaches us on the need to go upstream for clear water and on the need to be atop life of yin and yang.

This some will refer to as renunciation. But is this renunciation of life? Surely it is not as what we want is to go for more peace in life of dis-ease.
It requires much effort just to try to stand still and not be swept downstream mercilessly by the current of life that gathers more and more strength and complexity the more we are swept downstream.

If we want more of peace, we must seek the shelter of God and saints. While we must live among men, we must gravitate ourselves towards God and saints rather than towards men and the beasts in men. We must learn from the lessons of life of men. Life is the living gospel and the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) did allude to this. The quest in life is to enable the peace and be with God and saints.
Remember there are already more than enough storms in life and do not at any time create more storms of our own, even if they may only be storms in a tea cup. This will only rob away from us any precious peace we may have.
Many issues within families, temples and societies are often storms in tea cup. This applies to any institution including any temple of the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨). These occur among kinship or brethren, turning brother against brother and friend against friend. These are needless problems to begin with and only waste precious time and resources. Precious is life as men. Live on with diligence. Go for peace. This then is the quest of life.
