No 794 of Living Life Series 1
What we believe is important. If we believe wrong, we will end up with wrong thoughts. This leads to bad emotions and feelings. This in turn leads to wrong actions and behaviors.
Many are struggling to control their behaviors and life because they don't have control over their emotions and feelings. Well, they have no control of emotions because they they have lost control of their thoughts. They are far from peace. They are like that because they believe wrong.
What we believe is powerful. If we can change what we believe, we can change our life!
Put simply, if we believe wrong, we will struggle with wrong thoughts and a restless mind that makes us far from being at peace.
This is the teaching of all sages, all saints in all religions.
Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) assures us that we can find the same basic or inner truth, the same goodness in all religions. If we can accept that and believe in that, then we will want to know more of the teachings of the sages. We will want to learn from them and understand more of what we already believe through the sage or saint of the religion or culture we are in.

Right believing means that we respect all the sages of all religions. This is essential for all to have. This is the starter message by the good lord Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨).
By so doing, we will not have guilt in believing the teachings of other sages just because they are not mentioned by our own sage or somewhat different from what we already know from the sage of our culture or religion.
Right belief means we must not have false views. According to Buddha, there are two false views of life. One is to believe that there is no life after death and that life ceases upon death. The other false view is that upon death, there is either eternal hell or heaven.
The an-nihilism or materialistic approach has limitations. There is more self centered approach. We may then think we should live up to the nines and we struggle with ourselves and others to do so. We are not at peace.
The eternal centered approach (as opposed to cyclical rebirths) has its limitations. We cannot be right all the time. We will end up thinking that we will go to hell. Then when others tell us that doing good is not good enough and we must believe in a sage to be saved and to be in eternal heaven, we will just go for this. We will throw logic and reasoning aside and may at times do the unthinkable. We live in fear of not being in the good books of the sage. We have fragile peace and in reality not at peace.
Guilt and fear are bad emotions though they might initially be wake-up calls. But being overwhelmed by guilt and fear will paralyze us and we will not be at peace with God and saints. This will be contrary to divine purpose.
Lord Bo Tien (武天菩萨) through 1975 message advises against guilt and fear and that we do not sin because we do not wrong God. Rather, in whatever we do even if not right, we wrong ourselves not God and saints who are perfect and above being wronged by men. After all, God and saints are loving even to those who are far from right.
While it is good to have right believing, what matters is that there is peace of the moment. Many moments of peace do add up. Do not daydream about having eternity of peace for now. Why argue till kingdom comes? This alone is right believing, isn't it?
As some may say, "We do not fix problems in life. We fix our thinking. Then problems fix themselves." Isn't this an eye opener? We don't even need to be religious or to be in a religion to know that, do we?
Buddha started of as man, a prince with a religion of sorts, then without religion and ended up starting a religion when he became enlightened as the Buddha. He just went for right believing. If he could, we too can. We are as human as he was.
Many do not go for a religion but just have belief in deities like the duo hell guard deities Dua Di Ya Pek 大二爷伯. That has done wonders for them in life. That alone is enough for them for now to enable them to move on in life.
They know too well that the two hell guard deities will not fail them and will grant them blessings where blessings are due. What matters is their belief in the duo and the rest will follow suit in due course.
If the duo deities can meet their present needs and problems, that will suffice and ensure that they will sail on in life. To their followers, religion is not the issue but life is and trust too as well.
They have trust and right belief in the two deities who are mere guard deities but who have the hearts of Buddha and God. Right belief matters isn't it? To their followers, they are the world for them - not religion or what have you.
Religion matters not. What we believe in a sage or deity matters. What we learn from our own religion and from other religions matter as well. Do not turn a blind eye to the good teachings of sages of other religions.
What has the Dalai Lama to say on right believing and the individual? Right believing means that one becomes a better person in whatever culture, race or religion we already are.
The spiritual principles we learn make us not better Buddhists just because we learn of such principles from Buddhism but they make us better in whatever religion, culture or race we are in.
Our belief must transcend religions even for religious life. That is right believing. The truly spiritual man learns from life and from all religions. He is way above and beyond religions of men. He is at peace with God and saints
