Is religion to serve men or are men to serve religion? Well religion is to serve men so that hopefully they can use it as stepping stone to be with God and saints and more like God and saints - but hopefully less like men.
But instead of making sure religion is to serve this higher calling, some men somehow position religion to serve men rather than the higher calling - the serving of the direction of God and saints.
If men want the easy way out, they will manipulate religion for this purpose. Thus many are made to believe that belief and worship of God and saint is enough.
But would God and saint need our worship at all and of what use if worship only make us adore God and saints like dogs adoring human masters?
Surely wouldn't this be demeaning God and saints? Surely this is not giving due respect to God and saints. Some even say we should fear God. That is more unbecoming, isn't it?
Would God and saints need us to fear them? Certainly not and why must we fear God and saints when they are loving and caring. That certainly is worthy of reflection.
In the old days of Chinese emperors, Roman emperors (during Biblical times) and absolute monarchies in Europe, men fear the emperor. It was then natural to fear God. "As on Earth, so also in Heaven." This was on the lips of every man during ancient times in China and is an age old saying of sages.
Thus it was not out of place to fear God then but what about now in 2014 and beyond when there are no emperors on Earth but only rulers based on democratic systems of various forms. There is respect for the laws of the land and even if laws are infringed, there is the recourse to courts of law though we cannot say that there is no element of fear at all.
Fear even if present is not the same as horrifying fear of the emperor in days of old. But how can this translate to the fear of God and saints? God and saints like the rulers on Earth do not exact fear out of us in modern times of 2014 and beyond. There is not even a tinge of tyranny at all. How can there be fear of God and saints?
Rulers on Earth love men. This is more so for God and saints above in Heaven. As on Earth, so also in Heaven. Doesn't this ring a bell once again?
How on Earth can there even be an iota of fear for God and saints? How can we be terrified by the mere thought of God and saints? God and saints are loving and the Word will vouch for this.

What God and saints hope we can have is to know the Word or Doctrine. Only by doing so and putting the Word into practice, making the Word work in life and living life in the Word will we be like God and saints and be with God and saints.
The best gift to God and saints is not worship, least of all fear, but to know the Word for the Word is God. Even the good lord Lord Bo Tien says that he who sees the Word sees Him and he who sees not and live not in the Word sees not and knows not Him.
We live in the Word so that we will be enlightened one day and not live to die but live to live - no longer die. The Word is the doctrine that enables life and not disable us with no peace.
Depending on the cultural background, the Word is referred to differently. Thus there are religions and sects to present to us in different ways the basic Word

It is Tao to the sages of old in China but what difference does it make for a rose by any name is still the same. Tao is in life and is made alive in life.
